PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen asked the public to stop promoting and sharing the song “The Death of Jayavarman VII”, which is only making it worse for Meas Soksophea, who performs the song.
Speaking at the Royal University of Law and Economics graduation ceremony on the morning of June 5, the PM said that some comments on Meas Soksophea’s Facebook page call for legal action against her, which were uncalled for since the singer apologized and removed the song.
“The Death of Jayavarman VII” was composed by Pich Sangvong, also known as Ta Sak Sar Phnom Tbeng, and details the religious conflict and the execution of Khmer King Jayavarman VII. The Prime Minister called for the song to be removed this week, citing historical errors which could confuse the Cambodian people about a situation shrouded in mystery.
